From Struggle to Service — Leadership That Understands the People
Raised right here in Charlotte, Jaraun Boyd, known to many as Gemini, knows what it means to overcome, rebuild, and rise. After serving 20 years in federal prison, Jaraun was given a second chance — and he’s used that opportunity to give back to the community that raised him.
Today, Jaraun works at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office as a Peer Support Specialist, helping individuals impacted by the criminal system navigate the courts and rebuild their lives. He is more than an advocate — he is a living example of redemption, restoration, and real leadership.
Jaraun is the founder of Project B.O.L.T. (Building Outstanding Lives Together), a nonprofit organization launched in 2017 that empowers communities through youth-focused programming, outreach, and support. Project B.O.L.T. has organized and collaborated on numerous initiatives including Charlotte Day, youth summits, men summit and resource events that uplift families and neighborhoods across the city.
Through his work, Jaraun has proven that change is possible — and powerful. He leads with compassion, courage, and common sense, using his lived experience as a foundation for real, community-centered progress.
